With Secure Mission Solutions—a federal cyber security company —we were able to provide clear guidance because we were cleared.
Both of the RLH deal partners who worked with SMS held top secret security clearances. So they were able to have open conversations with management about the details of the company’s activities, most of which supported sensitive defense and intelligence activities. And thereby better qualified to assess the company’s opportunities and serve as effective advisors to management.
We applied the experience gained over RLH’s 30 years as an investor in the government services sector to help SMS develop a strategy for success, notwithstanding an extended period of government funding uncertainty. In head-to-head competition against much larger and better known firms, SMS won coveted positions on the short list of approved providers under a number of large government contracts.
But perhaps the best measure of SMS’ success came in its toughest financial period. During the two week long federal government shutdown in October 2013, more than 95% of SMS’ team members working on federal projects were retained as “essential” service providers. With the right mix of services and contracts, SMS secured its future while helping to secure our nation’s as well.
